Congressional Black Caucus 2018:

A little History:

Forty years ago, the purpose of a caucus to represent African Americans in Congress seemed clear to its founders: to eradicate racism. The 13 legislators who formed the Congressional Black Caucus in March 1971 saw themselves as representatives of black people all over the country. This year marks the 48th Annual Convention where thousands of people flooded the nation’s capitol for the most talked about Black political event of the year: the Congressional Black Caucus‘ Annual Legislative Conference (also known simply as CBC’s ALC).

In such a critical political year, with midterms fast approaching, organizers are promoting the conference as being more relevant than ever. With the theme of “The Dream Still Demands,“ CBC has lined up some recognizable faces to encourage folks to show up and get to work over the five-day event. In addition to the “who’s who” of Black American politics, there will be 90 different policy forums, meet and greets, and fabulous parties stretched out over the five days.

Whitehouse Christmas Party 2016:

I FINALLY got the chance to attend the Annual Whitehouse Christmas Party thanks to my Aunt (of course)! Lucky for us it wasn't freezing the day of the event because we ended up getting there a couple hours before entry was allowed. We wanted to be first in line because this is an event that people will attend and have the line trail all the way down the street and around the corner. The wait was worth it- Once we entered it was unlimited open bar, full buffet of an assortment of seafood, meats, desserts, sides and so forth! We were able to move about from room to room, take pictures in front of the Christmas tree, and experience the famous Whitehouse Eggnog! Let me tell you- it was the tastiest yet- strongest alcoholic beverage I've had to this day!

As the evening progress, we were asked to line up because POTUS Obama and First Lady Michelle were going to address all the attendee's. It was very bitter sweet- In my opinion they did a great job during the 8 years they served in the WH. They were able to stay out of controversies, stayed on good terms with the Countries Allies, took down Osama Bin Laden, and the list goes on. People wanted them to fail and the odds were continuously against them for reasons I don't feel is necessary to point out. The Country felt more united in my opinion (though far from perfect). The everyday growing fear that is our current state in this Country was no where near the downward spiral we are experiencing. I captured my Whitehouse visit with a few pictures that are shared in the gallery below. Regardless of your Political affiliation- respect my experience the way you would want someone to respect yours. Enjoy!

Democratic National Convention 2016:

This Convention was the 5th one I had the pleasure of attending over the years. My aunt Virgie Rollins, is a Super Delegate for the State of Michigan and Black Caucus Chair for the DNC. She is the reason I've been afforded several opportunities to participate in Political events and Conventions since 2000. I've been to the Annual Women's Caucus meetings, NFDW conventions, DNC and several CBC (Congressional Black Caucus) events over the years. Although I have made the decision to participate less, I value the exposure to a network of individuals who contributed to some of the decision making for our Country at one point in time.
